Turkmenistan to set up joint ventures with foreign participation

By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend: President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed the government to develop a programme "necessary for establishing joint ventures with the participation of foreign companies", the government of Turkmenistan said in its statement.

According to the statement, the issue of establishing joint ventures with the participation of foreign companies was discussed at an enlarged government meeting. The head of state also instructed it should "effectively continue work on privatisation."

According to Berdimuhamedov, "it is necessary to facilitate industry in the on-going work of transforming branch agencies into stock companies."

Furthermore, the importance of accelerating the pace of development of the country's financial system and in particular the development of the securities market was pointed out.

In 2012, Turkmenistan approved the 'State programme for privatisation of state enterprises and state property in 2013-2016'.

This programme is planned to be carried out in three phases during which it is planned to privatise state-owned enterprises of different industries, spheres of construction, transport, communications and other areas of state property and the creation of a developed infrastructure of stock companies.
