Turkmenistan, Ukraine to sign agreement on exchange of trading houses

The Chambers of Commerce of Turkmenistan and Ukraine will sign a Memorandum of understanding in Ashgabat on Nov.26 on the creation of trading houses in Turkmenistan and Ukraine.

The Chambers of Commerce of Turkmenistan and Ukraine will sign a Memorandum of understanding in Ashgabat on Nov.26 on the creation of trading houses in Turkmenistan and Ukraine, the CIS Executive Committee's press service said.

The signing ceremony will take place during a meeting between the Chambers of Commerce of CIS countries planned for Nov.26 in Ashgabat.

According to the Ukraine embassy's website, foreign trade turnover of goods and services between Ukraine and Turkmenistan amounted to $878.4 million in 2012 and decreased by 24 per cent compared to 2011.

Exports to Turkmenistan amounted to $701.5 million and increased by 1.8 times, or by $306.1 million. Imports to Ukraine amounted to $176.9 million and decreased by 4.3 times, or by $586.5 million. The positive balance was $524.6 million.

Mutual trade with goods in 2012 amounted to $651.5 million. Exports of goods in 2012 amounted to $528.1 million and increased by 2.5 times. Imports from Turkmenistan amounted to $123.4 million and decreased by six times. The trade balance for Ukraine was positive and amounted to $404.7 million in January-December 2012.

According to Ukrainian official statistics, the main exports to Turkmenistan in 2012 were products from the iron and steel industry, agriculture, machinery construction and chemical industries, as well as furniture.

Imports from Turkmenistan to Ukraine in January-December 2012 consisted of wool and cotton, as well as textiles.
