Iran aluminium output surpasses 235,000 tons

Some 235,677 tons of aluminium ingots were produced in Iran during the first eight months of the current calendar year which started on March 21.

The figure shows 5 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year, the IRIB News Agency reported.

The country's output in the eighth calendar month (October 22 - November 23) stood at 28,769 tons.

It was previously announced that Iran plans to increase its annual aluminium ingot production capacity up to 910,000 ‎tons by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Economic ‎Development Plan (March 2016).

According to Iranian Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Vajihollah Ja'fari, Iran's current per capita consumption of aluminium stands at 4.5 kilogram, while per capita aluminium consumption worldwide stands at 6.5 ‎kilograms.

The official highlighted that Iran's ranking in production of aluminium has increased ‎by four steps since 2005 to stand at 22th in the world aluminium ‎output.

Ja'fari stressed that Iran plans to book the 14th rank in the global aluminium ‎production by the end of the 5th Economic Development Plan (2010-2015).
