By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

The US dollar and the British pound official exchange rates increased in Iran today, the Mehr News Agency reported on December 25.

US dollar was sold at 24,779 rials, a 12-rial rise compared to Tuesday's rate. British pound was also sold at 40,511 rials, up 12 rials compared to the day before.

However, the euro fell by 11 rials and was sold at 33,875 rials.

US dollar was sold at 29,650 rials in Iran's free market on Tuesday.

Iranian government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said in September that fluctuations of the exchange rate in the past had led to an imbalance in the national economy.

The government plans to keep the free market exchange rate stable, he added.

The Iranian central bank governor said that the current free market exchange rate is reasonable. It is the bottom rate and it will hardly fall further.

On July 9, Iran's central bank posted an official exchange rate of 24,777 rials a dollar on its website, replacing the fixed rate of 12,260 rials, officially adopting a single rate.
