The World Bank (WB) is positively assessing the socio-economic development strategy of Georgia up till 2020, chief economist of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia region, Hans Timer said on Feb.17 after a meeting with Georgian Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri.

"My meeting with the minister was fruitful. We discussed successful reforms being carried out in Georgia recently and issues of cooperation with the WB," Timer said.

The expert stressed that the strategy developed by Georgia reflects three main directions.

"These are integration to European markets, creation of relevant conditions for strengthening the competition and ensuring inclusive economic growth," Timer said.

The Georgian Finance Minister in turn said that Tbilisi will hold a high level meeting on Feb.18 during which economic policy issues will be discussed.

"The forum has been organised by the government of Georgia and the World Bank. This became the reason for the visit of the international financial structure delegation to our country. Prominent economists and financiers will share their experience with Georgian colleagues," Khaduri said.

The minister also said that the new strategy of cooperation between Georgia and WB will also be made public at the conference.
