By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

The Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee will transit to the internationally-accepted System of National Accounts 2008. This will create integrated economic statistics, head of the information dissemination department under the State Statistics Committee Mary Amirova said at a press conference on Feb. 24.

"Several provisions of the System of National Accounts 1993, being used in Azerbaijan, were greatly changed," she said.

While transitioning to the new system, the countries must give a priority to the unification of data collection methods and focus on the following four elements, namely: coherence, consistency, breadth and depth of coverage.

"The System of National Accounts 2008 is more advanced," she added. "It is accepted worldwide. A relevant department of the State Statistics Committee is addressing this issue. Presumably, we will move to a new methodology in the near future."

The System of National Accounts 2008 is statistics base, which includes a comprehensive, systematic and flexible set of macroeconomic accounts used for developing policy, analysis, and research. This edition was prepared and issued under the auspices of the UN, the European Commission, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB). It is an expanded edition of the System of National Accounts 1993, being published, according to the UN Statistics Commission's decision made in 2003 and prepared with the collective participation of these five organizations.
