Iran allocates $600 million to expand rail network

Iran has allocated 15 trillion rials ($600 million) to expand the national rail network, IRNA quoted Iranian Railways Company Managing Director Mohsen Seyedpour Aqaei as saying on February 26.

The company plans to increase cargo transport capacity from 33 million tons to 70 million tons annually over the course of four years, he added.

Passenger transport capacity is projected to increase from 27 million to 40 million by March 2018, he noted.

The rail company requires 11,000 cargo wagons and 750 passenger carriages for the next four years, he further said.
