Baku, Azerbaijan, March 12

By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

Sahil metro station, the entrance and exit of which are located in a high-rise building in the centre of Baku, has been re-opened for passengers, Baku Metro told Trend on March 12.

Previously because of a fire in the building, the station's entrance and exit were completely closed to ensure the passengers' safety. Trains did not stop at the platform, but continued on to the next station.

"Both the entrance to and exit from the metro station were reopened and it is now receiving passengers," the Baku Metro said.

The building in Baku's centre where a fire broke out earlier, also houses the Sahil shopping centre and the Argentinean Embassy in Azerbaijan.

The Fire Fighting Service of the Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry said the fire broke out in the building's third floor.

The service also said the fire was assigned a second difficulty category, the toughest being the first category.

The fire was extinguished within several hours and five people were injured in the blaze.
