Kazakh KATCO announces results of its activity in 2013

KATCO LLP JV of Kazakhstan produced some 4,005 tons of uranium in 2013 and 20,000 tons of uranium since 2005, the company said.

"KATCO is engaged in a large-scale program for production of 4,000 tons of uranium per year and its activity in implementation of this program will continue until 2039. In order to achieve this unprecedented goal, the company has invested billions of tenge with the support of shareholders for development of production facilities and for discovery of new uranium reserves," the company said.

KATCO LLP JV is a joint subsidiary of the French AREVA and Kazakh Kazatomprom. The company was founded in 1996 for developing the Tortkuduk and Moiynkum uranium fields located in the South Kazakhstan region. With the lapse of time, it became the world's largest uranium producing enterprise using the method of in-situ leaching (ISL).

Kazatomprom National Atomic Company (NAC) JSC is Kazakhstan's national operator on the export of uranium and its compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel for power plants, special equipment, dual-use technology and materials. The basic directions of the company's activity include: geological exploration, uranium production, production of nuclear fuel cycle products, and production of construction materials, energy, science, social security and personal training. Kazatomprom is the active participant of the Program for Development of Renewable Energy in the Republic of Kazakhstan. To date, over 25,000 people work in the company. Kazatomprom is among the leading uranium producing companies of the world.

French AREVA is one of the leaders in the sphere of nuclear energy and develops high-tech solutions in the sphere of renewable energy sources jointly with its partners.
