Kazakhstan's grain exports in the 2013-2014 marketing year stood at over seven million tonnes as of April 20, according to Managing Director - Commercial Director of JSC NC Food Corporation Nurbek Dairbekov.

Dairbekov made the remarks on April 23 during a briefing held at the Central Communications Service for the President of Kazakhstan.

"This year the country's export potential will stand at about 9.5 million tonnes according to the assessments of Kazakh Agriculture Ministry, and about 7.3 million tonnes of wheat has already been exported as of April 20," Dairbekov said.

He added that this year Kazakhstan harvested 18.2 million tonnes of grain, some 13.9 million tonnes of this being wheat.

"Some 14 percent of the wheat will be exported to Iran and about 4 percent will be delivered to China. This basically confirms a significant increase in supply volumes," Dairbekov said.

He said until now Iran has been buying about 300,000-500,000 tonnes from Kazakhstan, while this year it is predicted that Iran will import about 1.2 million tonnes of wheat. As of the end of this marketing year the exports to China will reach about 370,000 tonnes.

"Kazakhstan's total revenue from the wheat export has grown in the past four years by almost 2.5 times. The total revenue from wheat export over 2013 was $1.2 billion, while, for example, in 2009 this figure was about $600 million," Dairbekov added.
