Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway can facilitate flow of goods from China to Arab States, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said on May 13.

The minister made the remarks while speaking at the first session of the Arab Cooperation and Economic Forum with Central Asia and Azerbaijan in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.

Mammadyarov stated that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the development of sustainable economic relations with Arab states.

He underscored that this forum will deepen the investment and trade relations.

Mammadyarov stressed that Azerbaijan welcomes the results of the joint meeting of the chambers of commerce held in Riyadh, on April 29, 2014 as a trade and investment promotion measure.

Talking about the cooperation in the transport sector, the Azerbaijani minister said that transit and economic integration potential of the region largely remains untapped.

"Once finalized the railway link Baku-Tbilisi-Kars connecting Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey will further diversify routes within the regional transport corridor and can facilitate flow of goods from China to Arab States."

"Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway network can also be potentially connected with the prospective GCC railroad system," the foreign minister added.

Azerbaijan stands ready to extend its full support to set up special academic exchange programs to put further impetus to educational cooperation, Mammadyarov said.

Learning experiences and innovation applied in development of industry and fuel-energy sectors, as well as exchange of experience in tourism is also of great interest to Azerbaijan, according to the minister.
