Kazakhstan ups grain export

Kazakhstan increased wheat and meslin (wheat and rye mixture) exports by 39.3 percent in the first quarter of 2014 compared to the same period of 2013, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported on May 15 with the reference to Kazakh Statistics Agency.

Wheat and meslin exports hit 1.315 million in the reporting period.

In monetary terms wheat and meslin exports increased by 7.4 percent to $305.6 million.

Moreover Kazakhstan increased wheat and rye flour exports by 39.8 percent to 469,600 tonnes in January-March 2014.

Wheat and rye flour exports in monetary terms increased by 18.8 percent to $134.8 million.
Kazakhstan is among the world's major grain exporters. In 2011 the republic had a record harvest of nearly 27 million tonnes of grain in net weight. In 2012 Kazakh farmers yielded only 14.8 tonnes of grain due to the summer drought which occurred in the main grain regions. In 2013 grain harvest hit 18.9 million tonnes including 14.5 million tonnes of wheat.
