Iran imports $856 mln worth of medical equipment in year

Iran imported $856 million worth of medical equipment in the past year, Hassan Aqa Kasiri, director of the technological development department of the Iranian industry ministry said.

Speaking of exports, Kasiri said Iran exported just $19 million worth of medical equipment in the past year, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on May 16.

The Iranian solar year starts on March 20.

At present, 593 medical equipment production units are operating in the country, with a total of over 17,200 workers, he noted.

The units manufacture some 520 products, he added.

He further said that the global sales of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals hit $549 billion and $458 billion in 2012, respectively.
