South Korean GS Neotek reconstructs water supply system in central part of Uzbekistan

Uzkommunhizmat agency and South Korea's GS Neotek signed a contract for the water supply system reconstruction in Uzbekistan's Jizzakh province worth $ 21.2 million, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said on May 27.

The Korean company will upgrade a water inlet, reconstruct 55 kilometers of the existing network and build 33 kilometers of new water supply networks in two districts as part of the contract, according to the report.

The project is financed through the ADB loan and the Uzbek side's funds.

It was previously reported that ADB allocated a multi-tranche loan worth $ 300 million for the drinking water supply program in Uzbekistan in 2009.

It is planned to improve the drinking water supply of the rural population in 11 regions of Uzbekistan as part of the program. The program implementation will last until the end of 2018.

Uzbekistan plans to implement projects on modernization of water supply and sewerage system with a total cost of $4.32 billion by 2020.
