Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Plant (AMMC, Almalyk city, Tashkent region), an exclusive copper producer in Uzbekistan, plans to increase copper production by 2 percent - up to 100,000 tons in 2014, the plant said on May 29.

It was previously reported that AMMC increased refined copper production by almost 3 percent - up to 98,000 tons in 2013.

Almalyk MMC is the only copper producer in Uzbekistan. The AMMC accounts for nearly 90% of silver production and 20% of gold production in the country.
The copper-porphyry ore Kalmakyr and Sari-Cheku fields (Tashkent region) and lead-zinc-barite ore Uch-Kulach field (Djizzak) are the raw material base.

AMMC is currently implementing a number of investment projects on modernization and reconstruction of existing production, expansion of the resource base and the construction of new facilities with a total project cost of about $ 670 million.

The total volume of production is estimated at more than $ 300 million a year. The plant produces refined copper (cathode), zinc metal, lead concentrate and other products. The plant exports about 60 percent of its output, of which 5 percent goes to CIS countries.
