By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:

The Shulbin navigation locks in eastern Kazakhstan will be launched in 2015, according to the press-service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the country.

At present, work on the construction of the main elements of the protective hydro-technical facility is being carried out. Parallel to this, manufacturing of equipment and metal construction for subsequent installation is also being carried out.

The contractor "IrtyshGESstroy" LLP, by an agreement concluded in 2013 has done all the preparatory work for the construction of the main structure. Layout of earth work has been done and a temporary bulk dam backfilled driveway has been constructed.

The purpose of the construction of protective structures of the Shulbin navigation locks is to ensure the safe operation of the navigation in the spring and autumn flood periods at maximum filling of the Shulbinsky water reservoir and prevent flooding the "Priirtyshja" settlements located downstream," the ministry said.

The navigation lock is a hydro-technical structure on the navigable waterway to ensure the transition of ships from one water basin to another with different levels of water. The navigation locks are limited by gates on both sides between which there is a camera. The locks allow variation of the level of water within them. The advantage is that the lock's technical equipment is simpler and cheaper to maintain when compared to boat lifts.
