Uzbekistan plans to attract up to $1 billion worth of grants

The government of Uzbekistan intends to attract around $975.349 million worth of grants to implement some 467 projects in accordance with the decree 'On measures to attract gratuitous technical assistance funds (grants) from donor countries, international and foreign governmental and non-governmental organizations to Uzbekistan in 2014 -2016'.

The projects included in the program will help to develop the spheres of education, health care, agriculture and water industry, drinking water supply and sanitation, energy sector, increasing the energy efficiency and development of the alternative energy sources, support for entrepreneurship and development of information and communication technologies (ICT).

To date, Uzbekistan and donor countries have initially agreed on about 88 projects with the total cost of $243.246 million. It is planned to attract around $238.42 million worth of grants from different countries and international organizations, while Uzbekistan will allocate some $4.826 million for these projects.

Another 88 projects totaling $383.769 million are under assessment. It is planned to attract around $351.707 million from the donor countries, while some $32.062 million will be allocated by Uzbekistan for these projects.

Uzbek government has also approved the list of the most promising grant projects proposed to donor countries, international and foreign governmental and non-governmental organizations for the period from 2014 to 2016. The list includes around 291 projects with the total cost of $348.33 million.

Uzbekistan attracted around 200.1 million worth of grants in 2013 to implement as many as 186 projects.
