The modernization of production worth $59.9 million was completed at Kyzylkum phosphorite complex of Uzbekistan, and as a result the capacity of the company has increased by 1.8 times, "Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine" (NMMC),where the said project is being implemented, told Trend.

The NMMC management noted that the modernization project considered the creation of additional production lines for the production of enriched phosphate concentrate with the capacity of 316,000 tons per year. Furthermore, as a result of the modernization the capacity of the complex increased from 400,000 to 716,000 tons per year.

The project was financed at the expense of a loan allocated by the People's Bank of Uzbekistan in the amount of $ 35 million and the own funds of NMMC.
The general contractor of the modernization which started in 2013 was "Engineering Dobersek GmBH" (Germany).

Earlier it was reported that in 2012, NMMC and "Engineering Dobersek GmBH" signed a contract under which the German company carried out the design, delivery of equipment, materials, spare parts, installation and commissioning on 'turn-key' terms.

The first stage of Kyzylkum phosphorite complex with the capacity of 200,000 tons of phosphate concentrate per year was commissioned in 1998. In 2000, the capacity of the plant was expanded to 400,000 tons of phosphate concentrate and 200,000 tonnes of unenriched ground phosphate rock annually.

In 2007, "Engineering Dobersek GmbH" carried out moderinization of the complex, which introduced a combined scheme of phosphorite ores enrichment at Kyzylkum phosphorite complex combining the elements of "dry" technology with deep flushing methods of enrichment. As a result, the chlorine content in the concentrate was reduced to 0.04 percent.

The raw material base of the Kyzylkum Phosphate Complex is Jeroy field in the Central Kyzyl Kum with reserves of 303.6 million tons of ore and 57.7 million tons of phosphorus pentoxide.

At present, the project on the expansion of the production of phosphate rock in the Central Kyzyl Kum is being carried out by attracting foreign companies. In particular, the program provides increasing production at the Jeroy field, the main resource base of phosphate rock in Uzbekistan.

Kyzylkum phosphorite complex is a unit of the NMMC mining administration with complete production cycle - from operational exploration to production of raw phosphorous. Kyzylkum phosphorite complex is the main resource base national enterprise producing phosphate fertilizers.

NMMC is one of the largest gold producers in Central Asia. The combinat is a major producer of gold and uranium monopoly producer in Uzbekistan which is wholly owned by the state. NMMC also is the monopoly operator of production, enrichment and export of uranium in Uzbekistan. The industrial complex comprises four metallurgical plants - Navoi (MMP-1), Zarafshan (MMP-2), Uchkuduk (MMP-3) and Zarmitane (HMP-4).
