Some 367 metric tons of bony fish have been caught in Iran's northern Gilan province from the beginning of the catch season (October 12) so far.

The figure shows a 19 percent increase compared to the same period of time last year, the IRNA News Agency reported on Nov. 12.

The value of the mentioned amount of fish is estimated at 65 billion rials (some $2.03 million based on the exchange rate of USD on the free market).

The catch season in Iran normally lasts for six months.

Iran plans to increase its fisheries exports to Russia in the near future.

Isa Golshahi, an official with Iran Fisheries Organization, previously said that Iran is ready to export 100,000 metric tons of fish to Russia.

He further expressed hope that Iran's total fisheries exports to all markets will hit $350 million by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 215).

European and Asian countries including France, Germany, Switzerland, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkmenistan are the main destinations for Iran's fisheries exports.
