The 16th plenary session of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (upper chamber of the Uzbek parliament) started in Tashkent.

The agenda of the last meeting to be conducted before the parliamentary election includes the consideration of the draft state budget, state targeted funds' budgets, the main directions of tax and budget policy for 2015, job creation programs and the population's employment.

The senators will also consider a number of laws, including amendments to the laws on "Investment activity" and "Physical and legal entities' appeals", aimed at improving the investment climate and business sphere in Uzbekistan.

Other issues related to the competence of the Senate will be also discussed at the plenary session.

Uzbekistan's bicameral parliament was created in 2005. Its legislative chamber permanently employs 150 MPs from four political parties and the Uzbek Ecological Movement. They were elected in Dec. 2009 for a five-year period.

Around 100 equally elected senators work in the upper house, namely: six people from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and Tashkent city.

Around 16 more members of the Senate are appointed by the president among the most distinguished citizens with rich experience and special merits in the fields of science, art, literature, industry and other areas of state and public activity.

The election will be held on Dec. 21, 2014.
