Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec.4

By Huseyn Veliyev - Trend:

Russia is calling for a new route of the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM), Deputy Minister of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Rashid Ismayilov told Trend.

Ismayilov said that Russia fully supports the TASIM draft and the country only desires that it would be laid along the Ashgabat-Makhachkala route, so that the network would cover the South of Russia and have a broader scope, which would be important for Azerbaijan as well.

At present, the TASIM project includes such countries as Russia (RosTelecom), Kazakhstan (KazTransCom), Turkey (TurkTelecom), China (China Telecom), and Azerbaijan (represented by the Center for International Relations and Calculations of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies).

Earlier, head of operational marketing department of RosTelecom, Nargiza Kamilova said, the part of the highway TASIM, which will cover Russia, is fully operational and RosTelecom is ready to provide all necessary support to this project.

"We have a strong cable infrastructure that paved the route from Frankfurt to China and further on to Japan," Kamilova said "I can say that we, like China, are ready to launch this project. There are other participants in the project - Turkey and Kazakhstan."

TASIM project has regional significance, and its purpose is the laying of transnational fiber highway covering the Eurasian countries from Western Europe to East Asia.

The project aims at reducing poverty and accelerating the economic growth. It can also play a leading role in the region's development.

The TASIM project is designed to connect 20 countries, and its realization will help to address the information gap between Western Europe and the Pacific Basin.
