Oil transportation via BTC decreases

In Jan.-Nov. 2014, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline transported nearly 26.05 million metric tons of oil versus 27.27 million metric tons in the same period of 2013, the report of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) said Dec.5.

In 2013, the BTC transported 29.7 million metric tons of oil versus 29.67 million metric tons in 2012, said the report.

It is reported that in addition to the Azerbaijani oil, Kazakh and Turkmen oil is also transported on pipeline.

Some 261.2 million metric tons of oil were transported in general since the beginning of the commissioning of the oil pipeline, SOCAR said.

The report said that in January-November, some 26.44 million metric tons of oil were transported to the world markets from the Turkish port of Ceyhan versus 27.07 million metric tons of oil in the same period of 2013.

Some 29.2 million metric tons of oil were transported in general in 2013 compared to 29.3 million metric tons of oil in 2012, said the report.

It is also reported that as of December 1 2014, some 259.6 million metric tons of Azerbaijani oil were transported to the world markets from the port of Ceyhan since the beginning of commissioning of the BTC pipeline.

The BTC's total length is 1,768 kilometers, including the 443-kilometer section in Azerbaijan, 249-kilometer section in Georgia, and 1,076-kilometer section in Turkey. The pipeline's construction began in April 2003 and it was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.

BTC Co. shareholders are BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.9 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent), TPAO (6.53 percent), Eni (five percent), Total (five per cent), Itochu (3.40 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), ConocoPhillips (2.50 percent) and ONGC (2.36 percent).
