Turkmenistan increases international freight flows

The volume of cargo transported by all vehicles increased in Turkmenistan in January-November 2014, the Turkmen Statistics Committee said.

In particular, this rail transport index was 8.9 percent compared to 2013. The domestic railways, engineering facilities, including bridges along the railways are being actively modernized.

The growth rate in implementing the work and rendering the services by the Turkmen State Service of Maritime and River Transport for the reporting period amounted to 8.5 percent. The construction process of a new international sea port in Turkmenbashi is being accelerated.

The growth rate in rendering the services by the Turkmen Ministry of Motor Transport for the reporting period was 5.1 percent.

The growth rate in rendering the air services by the Turkmenistan Airlines reached 11.7 percent in January-November. This figure for freight and passenger transportation amounted to 23.9 and 9.9 percent respectively.

Turkmenistan borders with Kazakhstan, Iran, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan onshore, and with Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Iran offshore. The implementation of the regional transport projects has been recently intensified.

Moreover, a ceremony of commissioning a new Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway was held in early December.

This regional project will provide the European and Asian countries with a way to Central Asia and the Persian Gulf. Moreover, the construction of another transport highway - Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan was launched in 2013. China, Kyrgyzstan and Iran may join it.

Turkmenistan Airlines prepares for making flights to Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, Toronto. Currently, the local airlines makes flights to Great Britain, Germany, UAE, Turkey, India, France and a number of CIS countries.
