Astana, Kazakhstan, Jan.12

By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:

Kazakhstan intends to establish production of gasoline and diesel fuel from lignite coal, the General Director of the Center of Commercialization of Technologies under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Damir Egizbayev told reporters Jan 9.

"The Institute of Chemistry, Coal and Technologies has been implementing the project since 2013," he said. "In April 2015, an experimental complex with the capacity of 0.8 metric tons per day will be created on the Saryadyr field in Yereymentau district of the Akmoly region of Kazakhstan."

He went on to add that the process of processing coal into diesel fuel and petrol is already a widespread practice worldwide, however the Kazakh scientists managed to adapt technology under domestic lignite coal and also accelerate and reduce the cost of the process.

"The cost of liquid fuel will be 42 KZT per 1 liter," he said. "The potential investor ready to invest roughly $1 million in construction of a plant in case of successful implementation of the project has been found."

He said that besides, the center supported the project on creation of universal protective liquid which can be used for impregnation of overalls of industrial workers.

"Already this year the first production of such liquid will be created in the Republic of Kazakhstan," Egizbayev said. "It is not toxic and 1.5-3 times cheaper than foreign analogues. Its service life equals seven years while the service life of analogues is two-five years."

"There are already potential buyers - furniture factories from the region," the general director of the center said. "Some industrial enterprises of Kazakhstan have agreed to conduct preliminary tests of the liquid, after which they will be ready to buy it."

Egizbayev said that in 2014, the Kazakh scientists of the Center of Commercialization of Technologies received grants totaling $1.46 billion KZT. During the first stage of the grant program 526 applications were received, 16 projects of which were financed totaling 710 million KZT. In the second stage, 200 applications were accepted, 16 projects of which, totaling 750 million KZT, were selected.

The Commercialization of Technologies project under the ministry of education and science of Kazakhstan was implemented in 2008 within the framework of a loan agreement with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD, part of the WB).

In the period 2011-2013, 33 innovative projects totaling 4.5 billion KZT have been financed, and the International Center for Materials Science was established on the basis of Karaganda State Technical University.

Since 2013, the Center of Commercialization of Technologies LLP, which continued implementation of the Commercialization of Technologies project, began to work in Kazakhstan.

The concept of commercialization of technologies in Kazakhstan appeared recently. The main objective of commercialization is the support and maintenance of unique technologies from the stage of development until their implementation in production.
