Some 18.9 million metric tons of grain were harvested in Kazakhstan in 2014, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan said.

"Some 18.9 million metric tons of grain (the average yield is 12.7 centners per hectare), including wheat, 14.5 million metric tons, were harvested in Kazakhstan on the results of 2014," said the ministry.

Despite difficult weather conditions, crops were harvested from an area of 14.855 million hectares (99.1 percent). Some 1.8 million metric tons were put at the needs of spring crops seeds in the amount of 2.1 million metric tons for harvest in 2015.

"In order to address the shortage of seed for the harvest of 2015, the National Company Food Contract Corporation JSC in November announced the start of the forward purchase of wheat," said a statement from the ministry. "Thus, farmers can receive money under the guarantee of social - partner corporations for the purchase of seeds and pay next year by the collected harvest."

At present, the total capacity of granaries in the country is 25.1 million metric tons, according to the press service. As of January 1, 2015, the country has about 13.2 million metric tons of grain. Congestion of all granaries is 52.6 percent.
