Turkey to open new checkpoint on border with Iran

Turkey will open a new checkpoint on the border with Iran, Hurriyet newspaper reported Feb. 3.

This will be the third checkpoint on the Turkish-Iranian border. Turkey will build a 75 kilometer highway on Iranian territory after the checkpoint is opened.

The new highway construction costs 300 million Turkish liras.

Turkey modernized five checkpoints on its border with other countries in 2014.

Eight checkpoints were modernized in Turkey in 2013. The country spent 265.2 million Turkish liras for these checkpoints. The official exchange rate is 2.7455 TRY/USD Feb. 3.

Around 22 checkpoints operate on the border of Turkey.
