Oxygen station modernized at Uzbek Metallurgical Combine

The Uzbek Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AMMC, Almalyk city, Tashkent region) completed modernization of an oxygen station with a total cost of $26.2 million, the enterprise said.

Red Mountain Energy Corporation (US) carried out the technical documentation for engineering design, equipment supply, installation and start-up operations worth $19.8 million in accordance with the contract signed in 2013 with the AMMC.

The project was financed by the Uzbek Fund for Reconstruction and Development's loan worth $19 million and AMMC equity in the amount of $7.2 million.

The oxygen station modernization is part of a comprehensive program of technical re-equipping of the combine.

The project will provide existing and newly introduced capacities with the technical oxygen.

Almalyk MMC is the only copper producer in Uzbekistan and one of the largest manufacturers of non-ferrous metals in Central Asia. The enterprise produces refined copper (cathode), zinc metal, lead concentrate and other products. Almalyk MMC accounts for 90 percent of silver and 20 percent of gold production in the country.

Some 97.5 percent of shares in the structure of the authorized fund are owned by the state, 2.5 percent - by the staff.

The structure of the combine consists of two mining enterprises, two processing plants and two metallurgical plants. Its resource base is formed by Kalmakyr and Sary Cheku copper-porphyry ore fields (Tashkent region), Uch-Kulach lead-zinc-barite ore field (Djizak region).
