WB starts agricultural project worth $50 million in Georgia

World Bank is beginning an agricultural project worth $50 million in Georgia, the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia said Feb.20.

Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Otar Danelia met with a representative of the World Bank in Europe and Central Asia Peter Goodman.

The sides discussed the development project of irrigation and land market, which the World Bank is beginning to implement in Georgia.

The project of development of irrigation and land market in Georgia consists of two components: the rehabilitation of the irrigation system and the institutional support of the United Company of irrigation systems, according to Goodman.

Otar Danelia said that rehabilitation of irrigation systems in Kvemo Samgori, Zeda Rusi and Kumisi is planned at the initial stage of the project. Work will begin soon and will be completed approximately in two years. The World Bank will allocate $31 million (218 GEL = $1) for this work.
