Japan delivered a grant worth $900,000 (100 million yen) for Azerbaijan to develop its agricultural sector.

The signing ceremony of exchange notes and other documents for the grant was held at the residence of the Japanese ambassador in Baku on Thursday.

Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture Heydar Asadov and Japanese ambassador to Azerbaijan Tsuguo Takahashi signed the notes.

Takahashi said that Japan's non-project grant is aimed at promoting the economic and social development of developing countries by delivering Japanese efficient and advanced technologies.

"The equipment delivered as part of this grant will contribute to the development of the agrarian sector in Azerbaijan," he said.

Asadov said that this agreement is a new level in the development of Azerbaijani-Japanese relations.

"The relations between Azerbaijan and Japan are rising in development," Asadov said. "Today's agreement is another example of their development. This agreement will play an important role in upgrading the technical park of the agrarian sector of Azerbaijan and the development of human resources."
