Ashgabat and Sofia will sign several documents aimed at strengthening the legal framework of interstate relations following the bilateral negotiations to be held during Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov's official visit to Turkmenistan on August 24-25, the government of Turkmenistan said.

Turkmenistan is consistently implementing the foreign policy based on the principles of positive neutrality, peace and constructive international cooperation. The country attaches great importance to the development of mutually beneficial relations with European countries, the statement said.

In this context, the dynamic nature of the Turkmen-Bulgarian relations was stressed. The official visits of the Bulgarian president to Turkmenistan and the Turkmen president to Bulgaria in December 2008 and August 2009 gave a new impetus to these relations.

A joint Turkmen-Bulgarian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation has been operating.

The humanitarian and cultural contacts between the two countries are being successfully developed.

The program of the Bulgarian Prime Minister's official visit to Turkmenistan envisages visiting the city of Turkmenbashi. The guest will observe the construction of the International Sea Port and visit the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries. It is also planned to visit the textile complex in the capital.

Ashgabat and Sofia are periodically discussing the possibility of supplying Turkmen gas to Bulgaria. In particular, the matter rests in the ways of implementing the project of laying the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline to the coast of Azerbaijan. The Turkmen gas can be delivered from here to Turkey, Bulgaria and other countries of the European continent.
