Kazakhstan is working to increase the volume of grain exports to China, as well as the transit of grain through its territory to the countries of Southeast Asia, Iran, and through Iran to the Gulf countries, the ministry of agriculture of Kazakhstan told Trend.

Today, the traditional importers of Kazakh grain are the countries of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan), as well as Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Iran.

"This year, the harvesting campaign takes place in more favorable weather conditions compared to the previous season," the ministry said. The ministry said that the grain harvest in Kazakhstan is forecasted at 17.3 million tons in gross weight.

Crops on the area of over 6.3 million hectares were harvested in Kazakhstan, which is 25,900 hectares more than the same period last year, while about 6.9 mil 6.9 million tons of grain (about 6.7 million tons in 2014) with an average yield of 10.9 quintals per hectare were threshed, which is 0.2 tons per hectare more than last year, according to the regional department of agriculture as of Sept. 14, 2015.

Some 17.162 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were harvested in Kazakhstan in 2014, which is 5.9 percent less than in 2013.
