Yasemin Bedir has been appointed as a new regional manager of MasterCard international payment system in Azerbaijan, MasterCard told Trend Oct. 15.
Up till now Bedir supervised only Turkey. At present, she deals with the payment system in Azerbaijan.
Earlier, Hakan Acar, the country manager of the emerging markets of South-East Europe, supervised Azerbaijan. He will hold another position in MasterCard.
Bedir will be responsible for business development and strategic positioning of MasterCard in Turkey and Azerbaijan.
"Azerbaijan has a great potential in the non-cash payments," Acar said earlier. "Currently, the number of debit cards in the country is 4.6 million units, while credit cards - 1.3 million units. Some 70 percent of the credit cards have been issued over the last two years."
He said that some 73,000 POS-terminals were installed in the country in 2014.
"Despite the volume of transactions through POS-terminals in the country increased by 70 percent, this index is still quite low compared to other countries," he said.
Acar stressed the importance of holding the incentive campaigns to raise public interest in non-cash settlements. Azerbaijan became the first country in the world where MasterCard launched a new platform entitled "Priceless benefits".
The experience to be gained while using the platform in Azerbaijan will be applied in other countries in the future.
