Turkmenistan increases electricity production

In January-February 2016, more than four billion kilowatt-hours were produced in Turkmenistan, the message of the country's government said.

The share of export accounted for 617.843,000 kilowatt-hours, according to the message.

"The growth rate of this index compared with the same period last year was provided at the level of 108.1 percent," said the message.

Earlier it was reported that on the results of 2015, electricity production in Turkmenistan amounted to 22.5 billion kilowatt-hours, the export amounted to 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours.

At this stage, the work is underway to expand the export of electricity to Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey. The possibilities of transportation to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and countries of the Caucasus are studied.

In accordance with the Concept of electric power industry development of Turkmenistan for 2013-2020, it is planned to build 14 gas turbine power plants. Turkmenistan by 2020 expects electricity production to be at the level of 27.4 billion kilowatt-hours and plans to bring this index to 35.5 billion kilowatt-hours by 2030.
