Production of coal, including coal concentrate decreased in Kazakhstan by 5.6 percent to 80.82 million tons in January-October 2016 as compared to the same period of 2015, the Kazakh Statistics Committee said.

This is while the electricity output in Kazakhstan increased by 1.7 percent to 76.16 billion KWh in this period.

Only 0.8 percent of electricity is generated from renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan. Renewable energy sources in the country can give more than 1 trillion kWh of electricity a year, while the current demand for electricity stands at 91 billion kWh. Kazakhstan plans to increase the share of the electricity generated from renewable sources to 3 percent in 2020 and 10 percent in 2030.
