By Demir Azizov– Trend:

Seven free economic zones (FEZs) specializing in the cultivation and processing of medicinal plants in special natural conditions will be created in Uzbekistan in the near future in accordance with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s decree issued May 5.

The Nukus-Pharm, Zomin-Pharm, Kosonsoy-Pharm, Sirdaryo-Pharm, Boysun-Pharm, Bustonliq-Pharm and Parkent-Pharm FEZs will be created given soil and climatic conditions in Karakalpakstan (autonomous republic in the north-west of Uzbekistan), Jizzakh, Namangan, Sirdaryo, Surxondaryo and Tashkent regions of Uzbekistan.

The decree provides for the development of a targeted program for the creation of industrial plantations and a list of specific types of medicinal plants recommended for cultivation, with the organization of deep processing and production of medicines and biologically active additives in the territories of the new FEZs.

This will make it possible to manufacture pharmaceutical products based on local medicinal plants and natural components.

The term of functioning of the created FEZs is 30 years, with the possibility of extension. Special tax, customs and currency regimes will be introduced in the territory of the zones being created.
