Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, June 2
By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:
Turkmenistan doesn’t manufacture ozone depleting substances (ODS), and regulates the import and export of such substances and products containing them under the Law on the Protection of the Ozone Layer, said the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper June 2.
Thus, the regulations envisaged in the Montreal Protocol are being implemented.
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan completely abandoned the use of chlorofluorocarbons, halon and methyl bromide.
“Our country must complete the first stage in line with the undertaken commitments until 2020, and the second stage for the removal of R-22, a refrigerant still used in existing air conditioners and refrigeration equipment, until 2040,” says the article.
The Montreal Protocol on ODS, which was adopted in addition to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (1987), is one of the most important international agreements. The document was ratified by 197 states, including Turkmenistan.
