Uzbekistan eyes to develop car industry in 2017-2021

Uzbekistan plans to implement a program worth $800 million for the development of car industry in 2017-2021, according to a decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The decree published on the official website of the Uzbek president said it is planned to increase the volume of commodity output in car industry by three times in five years. At the same time, the share of imports in the car industry is planned to be reduced by 12.5 percent.

The decree envisages a set of measures to improve the management and accelerated development of the Uzbek car industry. In particular, it is planned to reduce the excise tax rate for cars produced by GM Uzbekistan JSC to 27 percent from the current 29 percent. The car industry enterprises will benefit from tax and customs privileges for the 2017-2021 period. A number of licensing procedures facilitating the export of buses and trucks will be adopted.
