Azerbaijan increases goods import from Georgia

Azerbaijan increased goods import from Georgia to $63.5 million in January-May 2017, which exceeds the volume of import from Georgia in the same period of 2016 more than twice, said a report of Georgia’s National Statistics Office.

The share of Azerbaijan in Georgia’s exports was 6.3 percent in January-May 2017 (4 percent in January-May 2016). As of May 2017, Azerbaijan ranked the sixth among countries importing Georgian products.

Georgia mainly exports pipes, iron alloys and other products to Azerbaijan.

A major part of Georgian goods, worth $151.09 million (specific weight of 15.1 percent), is exported to Russia. Russia is followed by Turkey with more than $97 million (9.7 percent) and China with $82.31 million (8.2 percent).

According to the report, Georgia’s trade turnover with Azerbaijan amounted to $316.29 million in January-May 2017.

The specific weight of Azerbaijan’s trade turnover with Georgia is 8 percent of total volume of Georgia’s foreign trade operations.
