Agricultural production up in Azerbaijan

Actual value of agricultural output in Azerbaijan amounted to 2.83 billion manats in January-June 2017, which is by 2.2 percent more compared to the same period of 2016, reads a report of the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

The livestock production increased by 2.6 percent and crop production - by 1.7 percent during the reporting period.

As of June 24, 469,000 hectares of the area were sown with various crops in the country (26.1 percent growth for the year).

Thus, 72,400 hectares have accounted for grain and legumes, including 38,800 hectares - fodder corn, 58,800 hectares - potatoes, 68,400 hectares - vegetables, 23,400 hectares - melons and gourds, 136,400 hectares - cotton, 14,100 hectares - sugar beet, 15,000 hectares - feeding sunflower, 3,300 hectares - tobacco, 66,500 hectares - perennial grasses, 2,300 hectares - annual plants and around 8,400 hectares - other spring plants since the beginning of the season.

According to the report, as of July 1, more than 284,700 tons of potatoes (8.9 percent decrease for the year), 561,000 tons of vegetables (41.8 percent growth), 44,300 melons and gourds (2.8 percent growth), 96,400 tons of fruits and berries (1.1 percent growth), 119 tons of tobacco (8.2 percent growth) and 326.3 tons of green tea leaves (35.7 percent decrease) were collected in the country.

As of July 1, nearly 1.4 million tons of cereals and leguminous crops were harvested compared to nearly 2.1 million tons in the same period of 2016.

Moreover, Azerbaijan produced 237,800 tons of meat (2.9 percent growth for the year), 1,003.5 tons of milk (0.8 percent growth), 879.4 million eggs (6.7 percent growth) and 14,700 tons of wool (3.6 percent decrease) in January-June 2017 compared to the same period of 2016.
