Azerbaijan, Hungary to expand legal framework

The Azerbaijani and Hungarian governments intend to add new documents to the joint legal framework.

Draft documents which cover such areas as economy, transport, banking sphere are planned to be considered during the fifth meeting of the Azerbaijani-Hungarian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, a diplomatic source told Trend Aug. 1.

The meeting is planned to be held in Budapest in early October.

The concrete projects and proposals in the areas of mutual cooperation which are of the great interest will be discussed during the meeting of the intergovernmental commission.

A governmental delegation headed by Azerbaijani Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev, who co-chairs the commission from the Azerbaijani side, will leave for Budapest to attend the meeting.

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto is the co-chairman of the commission from the Hungarian side.

The current bilateral economic ties, prospects for expanding economic cooperation, as well as opportunities for making investments in the Hungarian economy will be discussed at the meeting.

A business forum involving business people of the two countries is expected to be held as part of the meeting.

Azerbaijan and Hungary outlined promising areas of cooperation during the talks at the level of the foreign ministers of the two countries within the Azerbaijani foreign minister’s official visit to Budapest last week.

The sides expressed interest in developing cooperation in such areas as transport, agriculture, industry, education, pharmaceutics, etc.

The issues of preparation for the high-level talks and the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, expansion of the regulatory framework were also discussed. At present, the legal framework between the two countries includes around 50 documents.

According to the Azerbaijani Customs Committee, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Hungary amounted to $16.308 million in January-June 2017, including exports from Azerbaijan - $361,900, imports - $15.95 million.
