Foreign currency sales down by 65%

Azerbaijani banks sold foreign currency worth $91 million in January-June of 2017, which, by 65.93 percent, is less compared with the same period of 2016, according to the report on the monetary policy of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the report, banks sold currencies worth $151 million in January-June of 2016.

"Such a decrease in demand for foreign currency is connected with the stability of manat," stated in the report.

Volume of US dollars transactions, on the foreign exchange market, has decreased by 23.3 percent, while the euros – by 4.8 percent.

In the reporting period, 85.9 percent of all transactions on the foreign exchange market were carried out in US dollars and 14.1 percent – in other currencies.
