Azerbaijan remains leading investor in Georgia

Azerbaijan invested $224.2 million in Georgia’s economy in 1H17 that is 20.36 percent less than in January-June 2016, says a report of the Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

Azerbaijan invested $97.3 million in the economy of Georgia in 1Q17, and $126.9 million – in 2Q17.

According to the report, Azerbaijan holds its leadership in terms of the volume of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the Georgian economy. Azerbaijan accounted for one third of all investments put in Georgia. The country is followed by Turkey ($120.8 million) and the UK ($111.6 million).

Total volume of FDI put in Georgia’s economy amounted to $751 million in the 1H17, including $271.7 million invested in the sphere of transportation and communication, $125.1 million – in construction, $95.4 million – in real estate, $83.7 million – in finance sector.
