A tender will be announced in Turkey to build a high-speed railway as part of improving the railroad bed in the country, a source in Turkey’s Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend.

The railway will connect the Turkish provinces of Erzincan, Erzurum and Kars, the source said, adding the project is now under development.

Also, work is ongoing to prepare for the construction of a high-speed railway, which will connect the provinces of Antalya, Burdur, Isparta, Afyonkarahisar, Kutahya and Eskisehir.

High-speed railways will also be built in between the provinces of Antalya, Konya, Aksaray, Nevsehir and Kayseri, as well as between Karaman, Konya and Nigde.

Turkey’s Transport Ministry has earlier said that it is planed to increase the length of high-speed rail up to 10,000 kilometers inside the country until 2023.

Turkey also plans to reconstruct old railway lines under the government plan titled 2023 Vision.

First Turkish railway was built in the province of Izmir in 1860.
