Freight traffic up via TRACECA’s Azerbaijan section

Azerbaijani section of the Eurasian transport corridor TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus-Asia) saw transportation of 30.29 million tons of cargoes in January-July 2017, which is 6.8 percent more than in the same period of 2016, said a report by Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee.

According to the report, 61.5 percent of the total cargo was transported by vehicles, 25 percent was transported by railway and 13.5 percent was transported by ships.

Nineteen percent of the transported cargo accounted for transited goods.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program in the field of transportation between the EU and partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Iran.
