Azerbaijan, South Korea to mull development of economic co-op

Azerbaijan and South Korea will hold negotiations on development of economic cooperation, Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Baku told Trend Sept. 18.

During the meeting that may be held in November-December 2017, the sides plan to mull the development of cooperation between the two countries in trade and economy, and exchange views on the development of partnership in a number of spheres, including trade, industry, transport, agriculture, energy, tourism and culture.

Economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and South Korea covers such areas as the petrochemical industry, infrastructure projects and the construction sector.

At the previous meeting, the South Korean side offered to create working groups, strengthen the exchange of export commodities and expand their range.

They are also interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan in shipbuilding. Cooperation in this area has been recently discussed in Baku by officials of ten major South Korean companies.

According to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee, the trade turnover with South Korea amounted to about $38 million in January-July 2017.
