Kazakhstan, China to launch Lunjungang-Turkey container train on new route

Kazakhstan and China decided to jointly develop the launch of a container train along the Ljunyangan-Turkey route through Kazakhstan’s territory, using new Kars-Akhalkalaki railway line, the press service of Kazakhstan Railway reported.

Recently on September 25, the head of Kazakhstan Railway Kanat Alpysbaev met with the deputy general director of the Chinese Railways Li Wenxing to discuss the development of cooperation in the field of transport and logistics.

The parties decided to jointly work on the launch of the container train along the Lunjungang-Turkey route through the territory of Kazakhstan.

The officials also discussed the reduction of tariffs for the transportation of Kazakh iron ore and coal through the Dostyk-Alashankou transition point, crossing the territory of China to create favorable tariff conditions for container transportation along the route.

In January-August 2017, 6.7 thousand tons of cargo was transported through the railway the Dostyk-Alashankou and Altynkol-Khorgos border crossing points, which is 29% more than in the same period of 2016.

It is planned to transport more than 10 million tons by the end of this year, in 2018 - 12.3 million tons.
