By Ali Mustafayev – Trend:

China and Kazakhstan actively enhance economic relations, increasing bilateral trade, particularly the supply of Kazakh gas to China.

“Active development of economic ties between China and Kazakhstan, which we can see currently, gives all the reasons to expect further increase in trade between the countries,” Chief Researcher of the Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan Konstantin Syroyezhkin told Trend.

He added that China is able to become a trading partner for Kazakhstan and the countries of Central Asia at Russia’s level and the process is already close to its implementation. China ranks 2nd – 3rd in foreign trade turnover of the Central Asian countries, and comes first as an investor country for the region.

“Central Asia may also represent a direct route for cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the Economic belt of the Silk Road. For now Kazakhstan's foreign trade policy is built separately with China and separately with the members of the Eurasian Union, although the triple cooperation would be in direct interest for the both sides,” said Syroyezhkin.

China-Kazakhstan relations have made a huge leap forward in a short time, moving from friendly relations to the current full strategic partnership.

Over 20 years of cooperation in the energy sector, Kazakhstan and China jointly produced more than 100 million tons of oil.
