Free trade zone may be created in Ankara

Сurrently, work is underway on creation of a free trade zone in Ankara, Turkey’s Ministry of Customs and Trade told Trend Oct. 10.

It is expected that after the zone is opened, Turkey’s annual income will reach $3 billion, said the ministry.

Meanwhile, the creation of a free trade zone in Ankara is envisaged in the Turkish government’s Hedef-2023 (Goal-2023) plan, according to the ministry. The exact date of opening of the free trade zone has not been disclosed.

Currently, there are 19 free trade zones in Turkey. The first free trade zone was opened in Turkey’s resort province of Mersin in 1985.

In 2000, Turkey opened three more free trade zones in Bursa, Denizli and Kocaeli provinces.
