By Ali Mustafayev - Trend:

The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan amounted to $554 million during 9 months of 2017, Kazinform reported.

The progress is visible mainly due to the trade facilitation and coordination of border management within the Shymkent-Tashkent corridor between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

“The increase in trade between the two countries is impossible without a reduction of administrative barriers. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have already acceded to a number of international conventions, including the Convention on the Harmonization of Frontier Controls of Goods,” said the Head of the Tariff Regulation Department of the South Kazakhstan (SK) Region Askar Isakhov during the meeting of the SK officials with the representatives of customs authorities and the private sector of Kazakhstan.

Presently, five customs points with respective functions operate on the Kazakh-Uzbek border. The Kaplanbek and Konysbayev points, for instance, are engaged in admission of trucks. They are expected to optimize customs clearance.

The comprehensive proposals for trade facilitation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are being developed by the German Society for International Cooperation.
