EBRD, Uzbekistan to sign agreements on 3 projects

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Uzbekistan will sign agreements on 3 projects worth $120 million over the next 3 days, EBRD First Vice President Phil Bennett said in an interview with Trend on the sidelines of an international round table on the investment climate improvement in Uzbekistan Nov. 8.

Moreover, he said that the EBRD and Uzbekistan will sign agreements on projects worth $300 million till late 2018.

The EBRD office will open in Uzbekistan today.

“I am very pleased that we are opening a new office,” Bennett said. “We are also planning to sign 3 big agreements on the loan issuance to private companies in Uzbekistan. We managed to prepare a number of projects to be signed till late 2017 and in 2018 since the shareholders decided to resume work in Uzbekistan.”

Bennett added that the activity will be aimed not only at allocating funds.

"We will also implement projects in renewable energy, as well as projects related to the preservation of cultural heritage, etc.,” he said. “Our current and further work is directly related to the reforms being conducted by the Uzbek leadership.”
